Name: Katherine “Kitty” Callahan
Journal:
kittykittybangbang
Race: Human.
Age/DOB: 15; DOB November 3 1997
Appearance:
PB: Seychelle Gabriel
History: Growing up, Kitty spent a lot of time with her maternal grandparents, due to her mother’s residency. This led to some minor confusion when her mom actually spent time with her, and also led to Kitty treating her less like a mother and more like an older sister in some respects. (She often alternates between calling her “Mom” and “Caroline”.) She has spent most of her life living in Orlando and the surrounding environs, being shuttled into every after-school program and extracurricular activity her mother could conceivably sign her up for. She doesn’t know her father very well, and has some conflicting emotions about him, but she does always love to see him, even if the word “Dad” doesn’t come so easily to her. He’s her dad, and she loves him when he shows up, but he’s more of a curiosity to her most of the time.
Her life has, by and large, been pretty quiet. Sure, there have been a few incidents where she’s been summoned to the principal’s office for fighting with other students, but no major upheavals have occurred. High school is when things are usually supposed to get interesting, anyway. But maybe not this interesting.
Personality: Normally, Kitty is bubbly and hyperactive, optimistic as anything. Her sense of humor tends towards the dry and sarcastic. She is almost physically unable to hold any sort of grudge, unless you’ve really screwed up around her. Her explosive enthusiasm can be seen by some as incredibly irritating, but most people who stay around her for long tend to either accept that or ignore it. People who find her irritating usually do not burst her bubble, because it's almost like kicking a small dog. She has a tendency to make friends easily; she’s far more extroverted than introverted, and likes having a lot of friends.
Kitty is fearless, or at least she pretends to be. She likes to think she’s pretty tough and callous, which will be tested when she joins the resistance. Realistically, killing in battle will make her feel incredibly sick later, even if she pretends to be stoic about it. She has a remarkable ability to focus under pressure, sometimes to the detriment of her other duties. Her schoolwork will likely begin to slip as a result of being involved in the resistance. She will not really care overmuch about that, but Caroline will probably get on her case about it, because that’s just what moms are supposed to do. Kitty will most likely humor her.
She is a lot more vulnerable than she lets on. She’s tough enough - growing up with a hardworking single mom and a dad you only see once in a blue moon means you learn to take care of yourself pretty quickly - but she’s maybe not quite as tough as she thinks she is. Her greatest fear, one she won’t even admit out loud or even really consciously, is that one day, for whatever reason, her mom just won’t come back from work one day and she’ll be left alone. Being left utterly alone is terrifying to her.
So she keeps a smile on her face and maintains some genuine optimism, because thinking about that kind of thing is too horrifying to properly contemplate; and knowing Kitty, if she thought about it too much she’d fixate on it to the detriment of her mental health.
Abilities & Limitations: Kitty’s bevy of extracurriculars, meant to keep her busy after school, have provided her with a wealth of strange skills. As a result, she knows a little bit about everything and is always spouting off random facts to anyone who will listen (and some people who won’t). She’s a reasonably capable cook, and spent one summer camp stint learning wilderness survival skills. Kitty does not take criticism well if it’s not delivered in a softened way, and she’s not great at following orders. While she is capable of forming plans and a surprising amount of subtlety, she is also likely to Leeroy Jenkins it if she thinks the plan is dumb. She can be rash and impulsive.
The Invasion: Kitty’s going to be worried sick all the time about her mom dying in the midst of battle, and there may be days where she just tries to give up. She can’t, though; the guilt of not going would win out over how bad she’d feel with the worry. Her absentee father has always been very secretive about his work, and he’s always traveling; it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he could be somehow involved with the Yeerk invasion. Some of her school friends are involved in The Sharing and are trying to get her to go one day, but so far she’s kept putting it off.
RP Sample: Her usual incarnation, chatting about the best way to deal with stubborn ghosts.
